“I do Crossfit; I can eat whatever I want, whenever I want, and however much I want, because….I do Crossfit!”

I have never been especially concerned about what I ate or how much, but worse, I kind of wore that mindset like a badge of honor.  I think a lot of us do.

I have always enjoyed sports and exercising, was a very active kid/young adult, and enjoyed a fast metabolism.  I had tried to stay active and “healthy” for many years following high school which consisted of a few months of discipline, followed by a year without, and repeat.  I often paid for a membership I wasn’t using.

In February, 2015 I decided to finally give it a shot when I joined Crossfit Hydro and have averaged 4-5 days per week since.  I love it, and for the first 5.5 years I had the mindset that I was healthy, well, and fit.

Unfortunately, that way of thinking/living catches up.  I don’t think most would have looked at me and thought that I was “unhealthy”, but I felt the extra weight I had gained gradually over the years and was starting to doubt the idea that it was all “muscle” because, you know, I do Crossfit”.  I was sleeping well but still feeling low on energy.

After the first year or so at Hydro, I wasn’t getting PR’s.  I had plateaued.

I had noticed a few others at the gym making very noticeable positive changes to their physique and learned about “Mach One Macros”, with Ben Pantzlaff.  Not being someone who has ever been very concerned with tracking my intake, I was a little skeptical that I could be disciplined enough to stay the course.

February, 2021 I finally decided to give “Mach One Macros”, a shot.  I guess I figured that what I was doing was not working, so why not give it a try.  Come to find out, it really is not that hard to do.  Yes, it involves some planning, slightly more discipline than a complete lack thereof, and a long term mindset.  However, rather than being more difficult as time went on, the results I was/am feeling and seeing just reinforced and compound my commitment.  My only regret is not doing it sooner!

“Mach One Macros” results: I started around 215 lbs.  I dropped gradually over 8 months to 185lbs.  BUT….I was getting stronger and faster the entire time!  I have PR’d more times in the past 8 month than I had in the previous 5 years at the gym!

We all “know” that exercise and good nutrition have a symbiotic relationship, but are we actually practicing both?  Do we actually know what types of food to consume at what times and how much?  For me, the honest answer was no.

I say this with 100% conviction, “I am the strongest I have been in my life, I feel better than I have since [maybe] high school, and I am [actually] healthier than I have been in over a decade and I could not have gotten here without staff and members at Crossfit Hydro, OR without “Mach One Macros” with Ben!
